Contest Terms and Eligibility

Carnival will announce 5 finalists: 4 chosen by a panel of judges based on creativity and originality, expression and emotional content of the dream. Plus, 1 "wild card" selected by public voting. So vote now for your favorite "Wild Card" finalist. Then vote starting September 28, 2009, for the Grand Prize Winner who will become the world's first-ever cruise ship water slide Godchild.

To Enter:

The parent or legal guardian (Parent) of a child between the ages of 7 and 12 years of age, at the time of entry, must complete the electronic entry form and permission acknowledgement with all information requested, which will include:

  • A paragraph written by the child (no more than 250 words) completing the thought: Im always dreaming up fun stuff. Wouldnt it be awesome if . . .
  • Drawing made by the child illustrating the paragraph (file size up to 10MB);
  • Parents full name;
  • Childs age and first name only;
  • Parents email address;
  • Parents phone number(s);
  • City, State and Zip Code of residence;
  • Parents relationship to child; and
  • Parents acceptance of these Official Rules and permission for the childs participation in the contest.

Entry must be submitted between August 18, 2009 12:00:01 a.m. EST and no later than September 18, 2009, 11:59:59 p.m. EST (the Entry Period) on the Sponsors website located at www.bigbookofdreams.com, to be entered into the Virtual Book of Dreams Contest (the Contest), which will continue through October 12, 2009 (the Contest Period). The material submitted, including the paragraph written by the child (no more than 250 words), will be considered the entry (Entry). By entering, you hereby agree that you have read and will be bound by the Contest Official Rules and Regulations (Rules) and the Privacy Policy of Carnival Cruise Lines (Sponsor) found at http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/legal_notice.aspx. All legal responsibilities under the Rules will be assumed by the childs Parent on behalf of the child and, if selected as Winner, in whose name the Grand Prize will be awarded for the benefit of the child.

For purposes of this Contest, receipt of an internet entry occurs when Sponsors servers record the entry information resulting from the entrant clicking the Enter Contest button. Automated entries (including but not limited to entries submitted using any robot, script, macro, or other automated service) are not permitted and will be disqualified. All entries become the property of Sponsor and will not be returned. All winners ("Winners") must meet the eligibility requirements set forth in these Rules in order to qualify for the prize. Limit one entry per email address. Sponsor is not responsible for any failure of its website during the Contest Period, including any telephone problems or technical malfunction of any computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email or entry to be received on account of traffic congestion on the internet or at the website, or any combination thereof including any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from uploading or downloading any material related to the Contest, all of which may affect a person's ability to participate in the Contest. Entries must be the original work of the child; may not have won previous awards; may not have been published previously; must not infringe third-partys rights; must be suitable for publication (i.e., may not be obscene or indecent); must not contain obscene or pornographic material, may not contain defamatory statements, may not invade privacy or other rights of any person, firm or entity, may not in any other way violate applicable laws and regulations, may not contain any reference to any third party trademarks, names or third party logos (other than as owned by the entrant) and may not contain any copyrighted works (other than as owned by the entrant). All Entries will be reviewed for content before being judged. Entries containing prohibited or inappropriate content as determined by the Sponsor or Sponsors representative, in its sole discretion, will be disqualified. Sponsor makes the final determination as to what Entries are eligible to take part in this Contest. Entrant will receive an email notification confirming, (i) that the Entry is under review and (ii) whether the Entry is accepted or disqualified. Submission of an Entry grants Sponsor and its agents the unconditional right to publish, use, adapt, edit and/or modify such Entry in any way, in any and all media, without limitation online distribution, and without consideration to the entrant, whether or not such submission is selected as a winning Entry. Submission of any Entry further constitutes the entrants consent for themselves and on behalf of the child to irrevocably assign and transfer to the Sponsor any and all rights, title and interest in Entry, including, without limitation, all copyrights and waive all moral rights in Entry. By submitting an Entry in the Contest you expressly agree that Sponsor may display the Entry online.

Who May Enter:

THIS CONTEST IS OPEN TO LEGAL RESIDENTS OF THE 50 UNITED STATES AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA WHO ARE 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER AND LEGAL RESIDENTS OF CANADA (EXCLUDING RESIDENTS OF QUEBEC) OF THE AGE OF MAJORITY IN THEIR PROVINCE OF RESIDENCE. The following persons are not eligible to enter the Contest or participate in voting: (a) employees of Carnival Cruise Lines ("Sponsor"), its affiliates, subsidiaries, officers or employees; (b) officers, employees or agents of any organizations directly involved with this Contest, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, ALSAC, any co-Sponsor or judges of the Contest; (c) immediate family members (parent, child, sibling and spouse of each) and persons living in the same household as the persons identified in (a) and (b) above. Void where prohibited or restricted by law.

Selection of Winner:

Winner will be determined from all eligible Entries received during the Entry Period. A total of five (5) Entries (the Finalists) will be chosen for a final round of online public voting, as follows:

Judging. All eligible Entries will be evaluated by a public relations agency selected by Sponsor (the Judge) based on a 5-point scale, using whole and half point increments, using the following criteria:

  • Creativity and Originality of the idea/dream.
  • Expression; how well the idea/dream is captured in words.
  • Emotional Content; how well does the dream convey emotion in words and images.
  • Drawing: how effectively is the dream expressed in the drawing; not a measure of how good the drawing is, but how well it captures the essence of the dream.

The four (4) highest scoring Entries will be named as tentative Finalists. In the event of a tie, the tentative Finalists will be selected by the Judge in its sole discretion

Wild Card. One (1) Finalist will be selected via public online voting on all eligible Entries posted at www.bigbookofdreams.com (the Website). The Entry receiving the highest number of votes during the Entry Period will be selected as the tentative Wild Card Finalist. In the event of a tie, the tentative Finalist will be selected by the Judge in its sole discretion.

Finalist Confirmation. Each of the five (5) tentative Finalists will be contacted by Sponsor or Sponsors representative to confirm whether the entrant and child are willing and able to participate in the Grand Prize activities, including publicity efforts/media interviews on the dates, times and places specified by Sponsor if confirmed as an official Finalist. If the tentative Finalist is not able to provide this confirmation, they will be disqualified and a replacement tentative Finalist will be named. The confirmed, official Finalists will be announced on September 28, 2009.

Winner Selection. Winner will be determined via public online voting. The five (5) official Finalists Entries will be posted on the Website between September 28, 2009 12:00:01 a.m. EST and no later than October 4, 2009, 11:59:59 p.m. EST (the Voting Period). The Finalist receiving the highest number of votes during the Voting Period will be named the tentative Winner. The tentative Winner will be contacted by Sponsor or Sponsors representative to confirm whether the entrant and child are willing and able to participate in the Grand Prize activities, including publicity/media interviews, on the dates, times and places specified by Sponsor if confirmed as the official Winner. If the tentative Winner provides this confirmation they will be named the official Winner. If the tentative Winner is not able to provide this confirmation, they will be disqualified as the Winner and will receive one of the four (4) first prizes. The Finalist with the next highest vote total will be named the tentative Winner. This process will continue until an official Winner is confirmed.

Winner will be announced on October 12, 2009. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible Entries received and number of votes received for each Finalists Entry. Sponsor's and Judges decisions are final and binding in all respects.

Public Voting. You must be at least 13 years of age to vote. Voters will be required to provide their name and email address in order to participate in the voting. Each voter may vote for multiple Entries but no more than one vote for any individual Entry. By voting, you hereby agree that you have read the Privacy Policy of Carnival Cruise Lines (Sponsor) found at http://www.carnival.com/cms/fun/legal_notice.aspx.

Prizes

Grand Prize (1): Winners child will be named the godchild of Carnival Waterworks on the Carnival Dream and will perform a mini-christening of one of the ships waterslides on the Carnival Dream in New York City on 11/13/2009. The Winner and up to three (3) family members, which must include the child, will be provided with coach class round-trip airline tickets from the major airport nearest Winners home in the U.S. or Canada to New York City, and three nights in an ocean view balcony stateroom (quad occupancy) accommodations from 11/12/2009-11/15/2009 on board the Carnival Dream cruise (one night will be pier side followed by a 2-night cruise to nowhere) ("Cruise"). Airline tickets may be substituted for alternate transportation if Winner lives within 200 miles of New York City. Approximate Retail Value is: US$3,000/CAN$3,218.

First Prizes (4). The remaining 4 Finalists will each receive a prize pack containing a digital camera and various Carnival logo items. Approximate Retail Value is US$225/CAN$241.

Travel must be taken on the dates set forth herein as determined by Sponsor or Grand Prize will be forfeited. Actual value of trip varies based upon point of departure and airfare fluctuations. Any difference between stated and actual value will not be awarded. All ground transportation, excursion fees, beverages and any other incidental costs or other expenses not specifically set forth herein are the sole responsibility of Winner. All reservations and travel arrangements including, without limitation, the dates, times, and airline choice are at the sole discretion of Sponsor. All travel must be taken on dates specified or Grand Prize will be forfeited; no alternative travel dates are available. All travel is subject to availability and restrictions. Winner and Travel Guests must travel on same itinerary. Travel Guests must (or Travel Guest's parent or legal guardian if Travel Guest is an eligible minor in his/her state/province of residence) sign and return a travel/publicity release before any ticketing of travel occurs. Winner and Travel Guests must have all necessary identification and/or travel documents (including but not limited to a valid passport or other document) required for travel. No cash redemptions. Grand Prize is non-transferable, cannot be substituted (except at the sole discretion of the Sponsor who reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value), and may not be sold or combined with any other offer. If Cruise is cancelled after ticketing of prize, for any reason, Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value. All applicable federal, state, provincial and local taxes on the Grand Prize are the sole responsibility of Winner. If Winner is a legal U.S. resident, Winner will receive an IRS Form 1099 for the ARV of Grand Prize and be solely responsible for applicable taxes or other fees, including but not limited to all federal, state and local income taxes connected to the prize. Canadian residents may be subject to withholding taxes, and Canadian residents are responsible for the reporting and payment of any income tax.

Claiming Grand Prize: As a condition of winning the Grand Prize, the Winner must (for themselves and on behalf of the child), (i) provide the required Finalist and Winner participation confirmations described above, and (ii) complete, sign and return an (a) Affidavit of Eligibility, (b) Liability and Publicity Release (Document), where permitted by law, and (c) any other applicable forms required by a taxing authority, within ten (10) days of receipt of prize notification, or Grand Prize will be forfeited and an alternate Winner selected. Further, by accepting the Grand Prize, the Winner consents to Promotion Parties (defined herein) use (or non-use) of Winners and Winners Travel Guests name, photograph and/or likeness, address, voice, and statements made by or attributed to them, in perpetuity, in any and all media now known or hereafter developed (including, without limitation, print, broadcast and internet), for all legitimate business purposes including advertising and promotional activities and media and other activities and communications, without additional compensation in their sole discretion, unless prohibited by law, without compensation.

In case of dispute as to the identity of any online entrant, entry will be declared made by the authorized account holder of the email address submitted at time of entry. As used in this Contest, "Authorized Account Holder" is defined as the natural person who is of majority age in their domicile jurisdiction and assigned an email address by an internet access provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational, institution, etc.) responsible for assigning email addresses or the domain associated with the submitted email address. Any potential Winner may be requested to provide Sponsor with proof that such Winner is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry.

Notification: Winner will be notified by email/phone to the email address/phone number provided by entrant. Documents must be returned in the postage-prepaid envelope provided, within (72) seventy-two hours of first attempted notification or Grand Prize will be forfeited. If any correspondence from the Sponsor or any prize is returned as undeliverable, the corresponding Grand Prize will be forfeited. The Contest is void in Quebec and where prohibited by law. Sponsor is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate entry information, human error, technical malfunction, failures, omission, interruption, deletion, or defect of any telephone network, computer on-line systems, computer equipment, servers, access providers, or software, including, but not limited to, any injury or damage to participants' or any other persons' computers relating to or resulting from participation in this promotion; inability to access the entry websites or any pages thereof; theft, tampering, destruction, or unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries; entry submissions that are processed late or incorrectly or are incomplete, illegible, garbled, or lost due to computer or electronic malfunction or traffic congestion on the Internet or any website.

Privacy: Sponsor will be collecting personal data about entrants in accordance with its Privacy Policy, which is attached to these Official Rules and Regulations. By participating in Contest, you hereby agree to the collection and use of your personal information and acknowledge that you have read and accepted the Sponsors Privacy Policy at www.carnival.com/legal.

Choice of Law and Forum: Any dispute arising out of or in connection with the Contest and all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Rules shall take place in Miami, Florida, U.S., in accordance with the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to conflicts of laws principles, and shall be referred to and finally resolved by a single arbitrator appointed under the Rules, and in accordance with the procedures of the American Arbitration Association, which rules and procedures are deemed to be incorporated by reference into this clause.

Release: As a condition of entry into the Contest, all entrants agree, and by accepting Grand Prize, Winner agrees (for themselves and on behalf of the child), to release Carnival Cruise Lines and its parent, affiliates, sister companies, directors, officers, employees, advertising and promotion agencies, suppliers, printers, and distributors (collectively "Promotion Parties") from and against any and all liability, claims, costs, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses of property which may be sustained in connection with submitting an entry or otherwise participating in the Contest, receipt, ownership or use of any Grand Prize awarded, including but not limited to any travel related thereto, or any typographical or other error in these Rules or the announcement of offering of any prize. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to void suspect entries and/or modify, terminate or suspend this Contest (or any portion thereof) should fraud or any unauthorized human intervention or other causes beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play of the Contest.

Under no circumstances shall entrants be permitted to obtain awards for, and entrants hereby waive all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages, or any other damages, including attorneys' fees, and entrants further waive all rights to have damages multiplied or increased.
